Describes the scope of Configuration Management (CM), the CM organisation, and the CM activities for a product and its support throughout the life cycle of that product.
NOTE - Programme managers have overall responsibility for the CMP although the actual compilation of the CMP will be delegated to the Configuration Manager.
The CMP defines and documents how CM requirements will be met for a particular programme or product. It will include, but need not be limited to, the CM process. It therefore provides an explanation of the processes to the customer, quality assessors and auditors, and should be used for training personnel. A CMP should, at least define:
purpose and scope of the CMP together with the extent of CM to be applied;
overview of the key contents and structure of the CMP, including those reference specifications, standards, manuals and other documents applicable to the CM of the programme or product;
general product definition and scope;
list of definitions, a glossary of terms and a list of acronyms relevant to the CMP;
security instructions that are specific for configuration management or the CMP, or any additional to those contained in the programme Security Management Plan.
